about
Cycling used to be my main mode of transportation while living in Los Angeles(where I am from). I wrote this song in April of 2018 in response to a black youth, Frederick Frazier(22), being killed by a hit and run driver. Days later during a protest for Frazier, a pedestrian protestor was struck and sent into the air. It is all of our responsibilities to keep our youth safe by advocating for safe streets and having difficult conversations with people when needed.
This song isn't directly about this incident, but I would like to release it in remembrance of Frazier. I am fortunate enough to have pedaled thousands of miles and be safe on my bike. Safety extends beyond giving cyclists physical space. Verbal harassment and exploitation of poc on bikes is a common, recurring theme. Here is to safe streets, liberation of our black and brown bodies.
